There's a Whole Winter Wonderland to Enjoy

Composer Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard B. Smith gifted the world with Winter Wonderland in 1934. A classic song for the holiday season, it has been covered by more than 200 artists in the decades since it was first published. Indeed, the song is so popular that almost all of us can hum along to the tune when it plays.

Those words from Bernard and Smith also serve as a valuable reminder, that there is a whole winter wonderland out there, to enjoy for the next several months. Even if you’re not a fan of the cold, blustery weather, there’re ways to make it an enjoyable time of year. Read on for some fun ideas on how to make the most of your winter wonderland.

Take Up a Winter Hobby

Maybe you live in a cold weather environment where the white stuff is prevalent. Perhaps it’s time to try a winter sport like cross-country skiing.

If skiing isn’t your thing though, snowshoeing is a less strenuous alternative. If you can walk, you can snowshoe just about anywhere. It is a wonderful way to get out of the house, get some fresh air, and see the world in a whole new way.

Try getting to local trails or state parks that are open during the winter. The change in environment there from the green of summer, can be magical to see. But be careful about checking in with local park authorities to ensure you’re being safe on the trails.

And the simplest activity might be to organize some neighbors or friends, and take a walk around the block a few times per week.

Help Out Your Neighbors

Another excellent way to make the most of winter is to help out your neighbors. We have all been in situations in which we could have used a helping hand, right? So be that helping hand to someone else. Shovel a neighbor's driveway next time it snows. Commit to helping the elderly couple at the end of the street by deicing their walkway.

We all have the capacity to be helpful. And guess what? Being helpful is one of the most gratifying ways to occupy your time.

Take a Trip

We get that for some people winter is very hard both physically and emotionally. The difficulty of winter makes it hard to get out of the house. For those of us in that position, it might be best to take a trip.

Those of us who live in cold weather environments can head south. Yes, there are seasons down south. They are just different. For example, did you know that states like Georgia and Florida get a tremendous amount of sunshine during the winter? Summer is their rainy season, but blue skies tend to abound in winter.

If you live in the south and need a break, take a trip up north. Learn what winter is like in places where your 'liquid sunshine' falls as frozen flakes of ice. It is a whole new world up here.

Look for Ways to Be Happy

The point is that we don’t have to go through the next three months suffering from winter malaise. Just like we can all choose to eat right, get exercise, and take care of our skin, we can also choose to make the best of the winter months.

This winter will be whatever we choose to make it, so go ahead and make it your winter wonderland!
